Asbestos Removal

Plenty of Ballarat homes, garages, sheds and farm buildings built or extended before the late 1980s still carry asbestos cement roofing, often called super six or fibro. Left undisturbed and in good condition it is generally stable, but once sheets crack, weather down or start shedding fibres, it becomes a health risk and a problem you cannot simply patch over.

You also cannot install a new roof over the top of it. The old sheeting has to be removed and disposed of correctly first, which is exactly where most homeowners get stuck trying to line up two separate trades.

Cutting, drilling, water blasting or dropping asbestos sheets releases fibres, and broken sheets cannot go in a normal skip or at a standard tip. In Victoria this work is regulated, and licensed removalists are required for the bulk of asbestos roofing work. Using a licensed removalist also gives you the disposal documentation you may need later when selling the property.
